But another innovating idea needed to be thought of to help more people on the streets of the city that's home to the National Centre for Biological Sciences.So on Thursday, a citizen of Bengaluru got a surprise when he or she found a motorised scooter available on the city's online marketplace, offering to be lent out for five hours at a time to anyone who needed.The service, called "5-hour Rent O Bike", had been designed by Ujjwal Mehta, a 36-year-old techie who says he was inspired to roll out the service after watching citizens in Bengaluru using a e-bike to help their fellow citizens after an accident. "I thought why don't we build a platform for e-bikes for people who are injured in accidents, for which they need somewhere to go, and not have to go back to their home," he told NDTV.More than 13,000 people took advantage of his idea in just a week. At the launch of the e-bike service on Thursday, 50 e-bikes were set to be added to the city's transport system. The cost of each e-bike is around Rs 1.7-1.8 lakh.Mr Mehta made the idea possible by raising funds for the e-bike rentals through just 8,000 rupees and Rs 14,000 that he got from friends and colleagues. One of the first citizens to sign up for the idea was Udaya Kumar, 26, a software engineer who was hit by a car in the city.
